The New York Times ran a feature on Key West in its Great Homes and Destination section. Many look to Key West for vacation homes on the tiny island because of the “warm temperatures (yearly averages are in the upper 70s), deep-sea fishing, snorkeling and coral reef”
The piece also acknowledges the well-known residents of Key West, including Harry Truman, Ernest Hemingway, Calvin Klein, Judy Blume and Jimmy Buffett. The town is a mecca for culture with museums, galleries and an active literary community.
Key West is defined in real estate terms as four areas – Casa Marina, Mid-Town, New Town and Old Town. Old Town features the “conch style architecture” influenced by New England and the Bahamas.
In its profile of the real estate market, the article acknowledges how the industry took a dive in 2005 after hurricane damage, flooding, and the plague of new high-wind insurance. However, many are now returning to Key West for the tropical lifestyle……
