I write this letter as a testimony of the remarkable experience I had on the weekend of May 30, 2008, at the Beachside Resort and Conference Center. During that weekend, the Republican Party of Florida hosted the Fourth Annual Charlie Crist Fishing Trip. The event was a tremendous success, which is largely due to the extraordinary accommodations and services our group received from your resort.
From our welcome reception Friday evening to our farewell dinner Saturday night, everyone in our group had only the best comments to say about the resort. They patronized both the restaurant and the pool and were immensely satisfied by both. My sincerest gratitude goes to the Spottswood family for providing us with this first-class experience.
Finally, I would like to express my gratitude to your entire staff for the warm hospitality that we were shown throughout the weekend. Tiffany Boeckman worked brilliantly with the Republican Party of Florida staff to ensure that all our needs were met. The front desk employees, food servers and bellmen were all very helpful.

THINGS TO DO: LOBSTERFEST CELEBRATED AT BEACHSIDE KEY WEST!
The mini-Sport Lobster Season begins in Key West at midnight on July 29th – and goes on from Wednesday, July 30th to Thursday, July 31st. As most locals know, this is one of two opportunities throughout the year that allows for the capture of our precious lobsters.
Furthermore, LOBSTERFEST begins on Friday night. There is a “crawl” that starts right after the sun sets until…..whenever! Not unusual on our fantastic island of Key West! LOBSTERFEST is for fisherman and non-fisherman alike. Proceeds will benefit the Key West High School scholarship fund.

This week, the Reef Relief Environmental Center will celebrate 500 years of ‘Antiquarian Books on Corals and Coral Reefs’. The event is free, and will feature a plethora of books about corals and reefs.
The event will be Friday, July 26th from 4pm – 8pm at the Center at 631 Greene Street, Key West.
Dr. James W. Porter, a coral reef scientist and Nova Southeastern University professor, is on Reef Relief’s Advisory Board and will host the reception. Dr. Porter’s personal collection of books has over 3,000 volumes that date back as early as the 17th century.
The nonprofit organization encourages donations at the event, for its ongoing efforts to protect coral reefs. You can read more about the organization or donate at www.reefrelief.org.

July 15, 2008 – Ernest Hemingway (granson) Book Signing and Reception
From 5:30 – 7pm at Blue Heaven, 729 Thomas Street, Hemingway’s grandson will have a free signing of his children’s book “Bump in the Night”.
July 16 – 19, 2008 – Drambuie Key West Marlin Tournament
In honor of Hemingway, an avid fisherman, this tournament takes place in the very waters that Hemingway fished.
July 16, 2008 – Wyland Galleries presents Lorain Hemingway (granddaughter)
At 8pm, Lorian Hemingway will perform readings along with writers Don Kincaid, Jeffrey Cardenas, and Cricket Desmairis at 623 Duval Street. Attendance is without charge.
July 17, 2008 – ‘Storm Surge’ Premiere
Hubert Grissom, a Southern Playright and Hemingway student, will premiere his comedy-drama play at the Red Barn Theatre at 8pm on 319 Duval Street.
July 18, 2008 – Lorian Hemingway Short Story Competition Awards Ceremony
Hemingway’s granddaughter, Lorian, hosts an awards ceremony at Casa Antigua at 8pm at 314 Simonton Street. The winning short story will be read.

Hemingway Days at Beachside Key West Next Week!
For those that don't know, Hemingway was one of our own Conchs. The writer adopted our beloved little island as his home....
Hemingway lived on historic Whitehead Street in Key West throughout the 30s and was an avid fisherman, in addition to being a Pulitzer Prize winning author.
Among the scheduled activities during Hemingway Days next week: a Hemingway Look-Alike Contest, various readings, a book signing by Edward Hemingway - grandson of Hemingway, a memorabilia exhibit, 3-day marlin tourney, the annual ‘running of the bulls’, and a short story contest directed by granddaughter Lorian Hemingway.
The Hemingway Look-Alike Contest is in its 28th year and expects over 100 men resembling Hemingway to participate at Sloppy Joe’s. Hilarious.
